Wiesbaden is a German city which is in the soutwest of the country and in the state of Hesse (Hessen).Even though there is a worldwide famous metropolis 'Frankfurt' in the state of Hesse, Wiesbaden has been selected as the capital city of the state. So I guess this selection is showing the importance of Wiesbaden in the area.
As I said Wiesbaden is a little city with almost 300.000 inhabitants. But there are so many characteristics in the city. For example there is a tradition in Germany to name cities with their specialities. The ones which have a name with the end 'baden' are the ones that have thermal springs, water. So as a city with the name end of 'baden' Wiesbaden is full of places where you can find thermal water.Beside being a thermal center Wiesbaden is a gamb center as well. The most famous casino of the city is called Kurhaus and it's located in the middle of the city.
Wiesbaden has about 300.000 inhabitants as I said and all of them aren't German for sure=).So let me give a brief information about the ethnicity of the immigrant inhabitants. The leading group is Turkish people for sure.(as it's in all the Germany)Since there is an U.S base in the city, it's possible to see so many American people as well. Some of the rest common ethnicities are like Greek,Italian,Arab...
There are enough many sights that I can suggest for Wiesbaden.I am going to tell just the names of them and you can google them to find out more if you are interested. The sights that I can offer to you in Wiesbaden are:The Palace Square, Schloss Biebrich(The Castle of Biebrich), Kurhaus,Brich Churches, Kurpark, The Russian Orthodox Church of Saint Elizabeth, Neroberg.....
If I need to be honest Wiesbaden is not a city for nightlife. There is nothing much to do at nights in Wiesbaden. There are 5 places that I can suggest you for nights. One of them is called Coyote. It's really a nice place with a warm atmosphere and there are free salsa lessons there as well.So may be interesting.Your second choice can be a night club called Cubique which is really small but has some interesting 'dance shows' sometimes.Your third option may be Park Cafe which is located in the most luxury neighbourhood of Wiesbaden on 'WilhemStrasse'.It's an interesting place as well but more expensive than the others. For the ones who like karaoke and Irish style fun, there is an Irish pub located on Kirchgasse and it's really cool.My last suggestion is a place called 'schlachthof'.It's an alternative place located near the main train station and full of punk-junkie people=)But sometimes it's possible to have so much fun there..By the way schlachthof means 'slaughterhouse' in German=)Depends on your mood actually..That's all I can suggest about the nightlife of Wiesbaden but I need to say that compared to Wiesbaden, Mainz is much more better about the nightlife. And it takes just about 15 minutes to go to Mainz from Wiesbaden by train so you can think about it;)
For shopping in Wiesbaden, there is a wide variety of supermarkets. The ones that I can remember are REWE, ALDİ, PLUS, TENGELMANN, LİDLE.ALDİ is much more cheaper compared to the other ones but the one that I can suggest to you is REWE.Even though it's more expensive, you won't regret when you see the difference between REWE and ALDİ=)
Public transportation network is enough good in Wiesbaden and there is almost not traffic density .There is a train station which connects city to the country.By the way there is not an airport in the city and the nearest airport is in Frankfurt. It takes about 45.mins by train from Frankfurt to Wiesbaden but don't worry, trains are so comfortable in Germany!=)
That is all that I can write about Wiesbaden for now.If I remember something else, I will add it to the text in the future.I hope you will have a chance to see this sweet German city one day...Best wishes, aufwiedersehen=)
